It has been a bitter week for Olympique Lyonnais to stomach. First, they were eliminated from the Europa League in cruel circumstances by Manchester United, and then on Sunday, they suffered a blow to their Champions League ambitions at the hands of local rivals AS Saint-Étienne.

Things are far from rosy at the club, and reports alleged yesterday that some star players have grown frustrated with head coach Paulo Fonseca’s choices. There are only four games left of the season, and Lyon will need to quickly refocus if they have any hope of staking a place in next season’s Champions League.

This morning, a banner was unfurled by Lyon supporters at the training ground demanding that the club not lose sight of their goals. “From pride to shame. Four matches for the podium.” Lyon are currently sitting in sixth, with three points separating them from AS Monaco, who occupy third and one of the remaining two automatic qualification spots.

Fonseca’s Lyon will host Stade Rennais this weekend, but they will have one eye on their penultimate fixture for this season, which will be away to Monaco.
