In 2015 the film Masaan was released. A new boy made his debut as the lead in the film. His dialogue Yeh dukh kahin khatam nahi hota be has now taken the form of memes. The person who said this is none other than Vicky Kaushal son of action director Sham Kaushal. At the time of Masaans release no one imagined that this boy’s film would one day earn Rs 800 crore.
Kaushals journey in the film industry began in 2012 as an Assistant Director under filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in the film Gangs of Wasseypur. During this time he also went to jail once. Before Masaan Vicky Kaushal did a small role in the film Luv Shav Te Chicken Khurana. Masaan was his full-fledged hero film.
Vicky Kaushal who now charges crores of rupees for working in a film once used to live in a chawl in Mumbais Malad area. He told in an interview I was born in a 10x10 room of a chawl and we shared a common bathroom with other people in the neighbourhood. My dad battled various financial mishaps for years before achieving success as a stunt director but my parents ensured that my brother and I knew all about the familys struggle.

The actor left his engineering background to become an actor. He always had a soft corner for the film world. He proved his work through his performances in films like Sardar Udham Uri: The Surgical Strike Sanju and Sam Bahadur. After delivering a Rs 800 crore film Chhaava Vicky shared his struggles in an interview where he revealed that he used to ask for work in advertisements that paid just Rs 200 – Rs 300.
Chhaava was released in theatres on February 14 2025 and later on Netflix on April 11. The historical action movie is based on Sambhaji Maharaj the second king of the Maratha Empire played by Vicky Kaushal. Its overseas collection is over $10.5 million (roughly Rs 91 crore). The India gross collection is Rs 716.6 crore.
