In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians and injured over 20, India has taken a series of strict diplomatic measures against Pakistan. One of the immediate actions includes blocking the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Pakistan government across Indian territory.

This means that Pakistan's official posts, updates, and digital communication via X will no longer be visible to users in India. This cyber-diplomatic move is seen as part of India’s broader effort to counter what it terms as state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.

🇮🇳 Here's What India Has Done So Far:

In an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the following 5 major actions were decided:

1️⃣ Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty

India has suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with immediate effect. This landmark agreement, brokered by the World Bank, governs the sharing of river waters between India and Pakistan. The suspension will remain in place until Pakistan halts all support for cross-border terrorism.

2️⃣ Closure of the Attari Integrated Checkpost

The Attari checkpost — one of the main points of legal land transit between India and Pakistan — has been shut down with immediate effect. Those Pakistani citizens who entered legally have been ordered to return home by May 1, 2025.

3️⃣ Travel Ban on Pakistani Citizens

India has revoked the SAARC visa exemption scheme for Pakistani nationals. Additionally, all previously issued SPES visas have been cancelled, and Pakistani citizens currently present in India have been instructed to leave within 48 hours.

4️⃣ Expulsion of Pakistani Diplomats

India has declared Pakistan’s military advisors — including defence, navy, and air attachés posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi — as persona non grata. These officials have been given seven days to exit the country.

5️⃣ Withdrawal of Indian Military Advisors from Islamabad

India is also withdrawing its defence, naval, and air attachés from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These diplomatic roles will remain vacant until further notice.

📱 Blocking Pakistan's X Handle: A Digital Signal

Blocking Pakistan's official handle on X is not just a technical action but a symbolic and strategic signal — it prevents the dissemination of Pakistani government propaganda within India during heightened tensions. It also serves to curb misinformation and anti-India narratives on social media platforms.

🎯 The Bigger Picture

India’s actions come as part of a comprehensive diplomatic and strategic response aimed at holding Pakistan accountable for terror incidents on Indian soil. With global focus on South Asia's security environment, these developments may have international geopolitical ripple effects.
