Copenhagen came in second, followed by Denmark, Prague, and the Czech Republic, according to the report which analyzed top tourist hotspots around the world based on factors such as street cleanliness, waste management practices, public cleanliness perception, and waste generation per capita.

Singapore earned the top spot due to its strict enforcement of cleanliness laws, coupled with advanced waste management technology that ensures notably clean public spaces.

The report highlighted the country’s comprehensive approach, which includes public education, hefty fines for littering, and efficient waste collection systems.

No-littering signs are widespread across the island nation, with first-time offenders facing fines of up to S$1,000 (US$761). Repeat offenders can be fined as much as S$2,000 and may be assigned Corrective Work Orders as part of the penalty.

The dirtiest city on the list was Rome.
