In Match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 11 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday thanks to a captivating 4-33 from Josh Hazlewood.

RR’s batsmen came out firing to put them in control of the chase after RCB reached their best total at home this season of 205/5 with two half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, as well as cameos from Tim David and Jitesh Sharma. RR needed only 18 runs from the last two overs to end their four-match losing skid, even though the spinners were putting the brakes on.

However, Hazlewood delivered a memorable last over, giving up just one run and grabbing two wickets to give RCB the win and send their ecstatic home crowd into a celebratory mood. Meanwhile, RR blew a third straight pursuit that they should have won, and another collapse in Bengaluru has left their dreams of making the playoffs in shambles.

After smashing two fours, including one off a leading edge and a six over deep mid-wicket in an 18-run second over from Yash Dayal, Yashasvi Jaiswal got things going right away by pulling Bhuvneshwar Kumar for six. Jaiswal missed the first three balls from Hazlewood after he dodged, sliced, and was hit for six by Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Short scores:

Rajasthan Royals 194/9 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 49, Dhruv Jurel 47; Josh Hazlewood 4-33, Krunal Pandya 2-31) were defeated by 11 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru 205/5 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 70, Devdutt Padikkal 50; Sandeep Sharma 2-45, Wanindu Hasaranga 1-30).
