Agartala: An unusual event unfolded in Santirbazar in South Tripura district on Wednesday, where a husband facilitated his wife’s marriage to her lover. The wife, Jhuma Saha, had been in an eight-year love affair with a person who lived in their neighbourhood. The marriage took place in a temple with the consent of all parties and in the presence of hundreds of villagers.
In a report by the Indian Express, the man identified as Nayan Saha said, “I don’t have any problem with it. Let them live happily together.” According to reports, Nayan Saha, a resident of Birchandramanu, married Jhuma eight years ago. However, shortly after their marriage, Jhuma began her relationship with Dipankar Banik. Nayan, who works as a driver, repeatedly warned her about the affair, but Jhuma continued the relationship.
Police officer Jayant Das, in charge of the Manapathar outpost, mentioned that while Nayan harassed Jhuma due to her extramarital affair, she never lodged any complaints of domestic violence. No legal action has been taken in this case.
On the night of April 21, Nayan discovered Jhuma and Dipankar together in a compromising situation at their home. The following day, on April 23, Nayan organised a marriage ceremony for Jhuma and Dipankar, honouring their wishes.
The ceremony was held at a local temple, with the approval and attendance of the villagers. Jhuma and Nayan have two sons, both of whom Jhuma has taken with her. Both parties have filed for divorce in a local court, and the matter is currently under legal consideration. They plan to register their new marriage once the divorce is finalized.
