Pahalgam Attack: The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April has shaken not only Kashmir, but the whole country. The impact of this attack is now visible on Vaishno Devi Yatra. The enthusiasm of the devotees who come to see the mother's darshan seems to be a bit stopping. The situation is such that devotees have started canceling their advance booking in large numbers.
There has been a huge decline in booking of all services used in the journey from Katra to Bhawan such as hotels, helicopters, battery cars, and ropeway. According to hotel unions, about 40 to 45 percent advance bookings have been canceled. This decline has occurred suddenly, which directly indicates that people are troubled by the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
The Shrine Board and the administration have taken immediate steps to handle the situation. It is being assured from all sides that Vaishno Devi Yatra is completely safe. Tight security arrangements have been made from Katra to building. Board CEO Anshul Garg said that there is no major impact on the journey at present, but the situation of cancellation of booking cannot be ignored.
Traders associated with Katra's hotels, restaurants, horsettu service are also worried. Their employment is being severely affected due to reduced booking. Hotel Association, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Department are trying to restore confidence in devotees.
Although the journey is still going on and the number of devotees has not decreased, but if the atmosphere of fear remains like this, then its effect can be deeper in the coming days. At present, the administration, boards and local traders are appealing that the mother's visit is completely safe and devotees should come to see without any fear.
