Due to geopolitical concerns, the Sensex and Nifty fall more than 1%

As investors continue to be alarmed by the uncertainties surrounding geopolitical tensions, the Indian stock market experienced a steep fall on Friday within hours of trading commencing.

The domestic benchmark indexes went red during intra-day trading after opening flat to positive in morning trading. Investor mood was impacted by the uncertainty surrounding India-Pakistan ties, causing the Sensex and Nifty to drop by almost 1%.

Around 11:55 a.m., the Nifty down 374.40 points, or 1.54%, to 23,872.30, while the Sensex was down 1,132.1 points, or 1.42 percent, at 78,669.26.

The only companies with the biggest gains within the 30-share Sensex group were Infosys, TCS, IndusInd Bank, and Tech Mahindra. The biggest losses were Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, PowerGrid, Bajaj Finance, and Eternal.

In the larger markets, the decrease is much more severe, with small and midcap stocks down by more than 3% each.

At 54,345.15, Nifty Bank was down 856.25 points, or 1.55%. The Nifty Midcap 100 index has dropped 1,791.35 points, or 3.26 percent, to trade at 53,178.50. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index has dropped 610.76 points, or 3.06 percent, to 16,352.75.

Nifty Media had a 3.73 percent collapse on the sectoral front, while Nifty Energy experienced a 2.91 percent decline.

Nifty Realty had a 2.76 percent drop. Both Nifty FMCG and Nifty Metal had declines of 1.3% to 1.5% and 2.56%, respectively.

The intraday session saw a 2.15 percent decline for Nifty PSU Bank, which was also losing money.

Analysts predict that investors will also be keeping a close eye on diplomatic developments regarding the India-Pakistan conflict throughout the day, as well as any comforting remarks made by the administration that may allay worries on Dalal Street.

On April 24, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased stocks valued at Rs 8,250.53 crore. On the same day, however, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold Rs 534.54 crore worth of stocks.
