New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah was visited at his home in the nation’s capital on Friday by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The gathering was called in reaction to Tuesday’s terrorist incident in Pahalgam, which saw the gruesome shooting deaths of 26 people, mostly tourists but also one Nepalese citizen.
Twenty-five Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen were killed in Tuesday’s terrorist incident in Pahalgam, which took place at Baisaran Meadow. The incident also left several others wounded. Since the 2019 Pulwama strike, which killed 40 CRPF jawans, it was one of the bloodiest strikes to hit the area.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Srinagar on Friday to assess the situation in the valley after the assault.
To discuss the security situation and develop a coordinated reaction to the assault, the Central government called an all-party conference on Thursday.
Rahul Gandhi remarked, “Everyone condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack” after the national government’s call for an all-party conference. The administration has the complete backing of the opposition to take any move.
Pakistan has been subject to severe retaliation from the federal government for its encouragement of transnational terrorism.
India decided to put the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty on hold until Pakistan firmly and permanently renounces its support for cross-border terrorism and closes the integrated Attari Check Post during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Home Minister Amit Shah.
Additionally, India ordered the Pakistani High Commission personnel to leave India within a week after declaring them persona non grata. In addition, the nation ordered Pakistan to leave the country within 48 hours and opted to revoke any visas granted under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES).
Additionally, the Indian government has decided to immediately stop issuing visas to citizens of Pakistan. According to a press announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs, all currently valid visas granted by India to citizens of Pakistan would be canceled, effective April 27, 2025.
