Runners across the UK who are hoping to take part in next year's have a limited window in which to enter the ballot.

The ballot for the 2026 race officially opened today (April 25), just two days before this year's event is due to take place. The ballot opened a day earlier than in 2024 when applications were taken from the Saturday on the morning before , which took place on Sunday, April 21. hopefuls must apply for a chance to take part in the race and the winners are then drawn at random at the end of the ballot, giving everyone who enters an equal chance of being selected.

But the ballot only remains open for a short period of time, so runners will have to move quickly to make sure they are in the running for a coveted spot in the race. Here's everything you need to know about entering, the race dates for 2026 and the entry fee.

How do I enter the 2026 London Marathon?

Runners can enter the ballot for a chance to take part in the 2026 London Marathon . The ballot opened on Friday, April 25 and will close on Friday, May 2, so hopefuls only have a two-week window to apply.

The winners are drawn at random, so everyone has an equal shot, and if you're successful, you'll secure a coveted spot. The results of the ballot are due to be announced in July.

How much is the entry fee?

There is no charge to enter the ballot, but if you are successful in securing a place then you'll have to pay an entry fee. The cost of a place in the London Marathon is £79.99, but if you get a place through the ballot, the fee is reduced to £49.99.

You don't have to pay the entry fee at the ballot, but UK residents can opt to donate their entry fee to the London Marathon Foundation regardless of the outcome of the ballot. If you live in the UK and don't opt to donate your entry fee when applying, you'll need to pay the full entry fee of £79.99.

If you don't manage to get a spot in the main ballot, there is another opportunity to land a space as you'll be automatically entered into a second ballot that will at least double your chance of getting a place through the second draw. If you are successful in either ballot, your entry is prepaid and confirmed.

Those who are unsuccessful in both ballots will instead receive a premium winter running top (which would normally retail at £60) and your donation will help the London Marathon Foundation to make a difference and inspire activity across the UK.
