Aizawl: Mizoram Governor and Mizoram University’s Chief Rector, General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), attended the university’s Foundation Day-cum-Silver Jubilee celebration on Friday and gave high marks for its first-rate facilities, picturesque campus, and cozy accommodations.

He also formally introduced the Silver Jubilee Logo. Gurjit Singh, the Ambassador (Retd.), was the honored guest during the function.

Governor General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.) gave a speech during the Silver Jubilee-cum-Foundation Day celebration, expressing gratitude for the university’s 25-year history and recognizing the significant contributions made by its staff, teachers, and students throughout the years.

He emphasized the university’s outstanding achievements and said that MZU is essential to the advancement of higher education in Mizoram and the larger Northeast region.

He commended the university’s outstanding facilities, beautiful and cozy campus, and solid academic basis, characterizing it as a thriving academic community.

In addition, the Governor praised MZU’s recent accomplishments, such as its ‘A’ Grade certification from NAAC and its continuous standing among India’s top 100 universities by NIRF since 2016.

He highlighted MZU’s academic prowess and said that via increased scholarly and cultural exchange with Southeast Asian nations, the university is in a strong position to make a substantial contribution to India’s Act East Policy.

As the celebration’s Guest of honor, Ambassador (Retd) Gurjit Singh thanked everyone for the invitation and emphasized MZU’s importance in the context of the Act East Policy.

Mizoram has a strategically important position and is well-positioned to gain from and support important national efforts in the area, he said.

A welcoming speech was given by Vice Chancellor Prof. DC Deka, and an outline of the Silver Jubilee celebration schedule for the whole year was given by Prof. Lalnuntluanga, the Controller of Examinations and Convenor of the Program Committee.

In honor of Pope Francis and the victims of the Pahalgam terror tragedy, the Governor led a moment of sorrowful thought.

The celebration included a brief video presentation that emphasized the university’s accomplishments and history, as well as the introduction of the newly created Silver Jubilee logo.

Numerous scholarly, cultural, and community-focused activities will be part of the Silver Jubilee commemoration program, which will run until April 25, 2026. The SARAS Fair, blood donation camps, free health camps, music festivals, cleanliness drives, mock drills, awareness campaigns, seminars, exhibits, tree planting efforts, and other outreach programs are among the events planned.

Mizoram University was founded in 2001 and has expanded gradually to include 37 departments. Under ten Schools of Study, it provides undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs via eight specialized centers. At the moment, the university has one constituent college and forty associated colleges.

The institution has around 100 foreign students in addition to students from more than 20 Indian states.
