A young woman from Paris has claimed that ChatGPT identified the symptoms of her blood cancer almost a year before doctors. This incident shows how AI tools are now playing an important role in healthcare services as well.

27-year-old Marley Garnreiter was constantly sweating at night and had skin irritation. She thought it was due to the stress after her father died of colon cancer. Medical checkups done at that time did not find any serious health problems and all the tests came normal.

Took help from ChatGPT

Despite all the tests coming normal, the woman continued to look for answers and during this time she decided to tell her symptoms to ChatGPT. The AI chatbot replied that her symptoms could be signs of blood cancer. A warning that she ignored at first. The woman told the People.com website that she did not take the AI chatbot seriously and her friends also advised her not to take medical advice from the machine.

Several months later, Garnreiter began feeling tired frequently and experiencing chest pains. After consulting doctors for a second time, a scan was done that showed a large lump in her left lung. Doctors diagnosed her with a rare type of blood cancer called Hodgkin lymphoma, which affects white blood cells.

Garnreiter, who is now preparing for chemotherapy, says she never thought an AI tool would identify something so critical before the medical system could catch it. It was shocking to her.

Although it is rare, Hodgkin lymphoma has a high chance of being treated successfully if diagnosed early. According to health experts, the five-year survival rate is more than 80 percent. Common symptoms include fatigue, stomach discomfort, itching, night sweats, and fever — many of which Garnreiter experienced.

While ChatGPT is not a substitute for medical advice, Garnreiter’s experience adds to the growing conversation about how AI can play a role in early symptom identification — especially in cases where traditional diagnosis takes time.
