India’s New Delhi Daniel Vettori, head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), expressed his admiration for all-rounder Kamindu Mendis’ performance during Friday’s IPL match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

He clarified that Mendis was chosen because of his variety of strokes, aggressive batting approach, and capacity to play spin on this particular field.

Mendis’ bowling abilities were also commended by Vettori.

“Kamindu Mendis has been very remarkable, in my opinion. A lot of the reasoning for choosing him was that we understood what kind of surface we would be facing and that we wanted a batter who could smash a variety of strokes, play all kinds of spin, and be aggressive. In other words, batting is the beginning point. During the post-match news conference, Vettori said, “I think I probably didn’t quite appreciate how good his bowling was with both arms. His ability to go back and forth and control his pace and even change his pace is a real skill.”

Vettori thought that SRH was able to lessen the dew effect, which he thought was an issue during their bowling innings, by winning the toss and bowling first. He gestured to Zeeshan, a bowler for the SRH, cleaning the ball in the first inning.

“We were lucky to win the toss and bowl first, which helped to lessen some of that dew, in my opinion. I believe there were moments when we thought it was starting to become a problem, even during our bowling innings. He went on, “I believe you witnessed Zeeshan wiping the ball.”

SRH beat CSK by five wickets on Friday, with highlights including a four-wicket haul from Harshal Patel and strong runs from Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis.

With three victories and six defeats, SRH now has six points and is ranked eighth in the standings. However, with only four points from two victories and seven defeats, CSK sits in last place.
