Malkangiri: Authorities have reported the successful seizure of a Maoist cache in the Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district as of Friday.
As per reports, members of the 177 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), based at the Ghanabeda and Gurusetu camps in the Swabhiman Anchal region of Malkangiri, initiated a search operation following actionable intelligence. This operation focused on forested areas near the villages of Kenduguda and Salganput, located within the Panasput and Jodamba panchayats.
During this operation, the BSF team unearthed a hidden Maoist cache. The recovered items included four tiffin Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), each weighing around 2kg, a 12-volt battery, 50 meters of electric wire, a plastic drum, and five small oxygen cylinders. BSF officials indicated that these materials were likely hidden by Maoist insurgents with the intent to target security personnel active in the area, which has historically been a stronghold for Maoist operations. This seizure is viewed as a crucial move to disrupt the logistical support of Left-wing extremists in the region.
