The country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India has confirmed that it will launch a new SUV in FY 2025-26 (FY26). This will be the fifth SUV of the company, which will be included in the current portfolio – Fronx, Brezza, Jimny and Grand Vitara -.
Although the company's SUV range is already strong, Maruti's grip in the fast growing SUV segment is likely to be stronger with another new SUV.
The demand for SUV in India is making records every year. In FY24, this segment was 50.49%, which has increased to 54.34% in FY25. In such a situation, all automobile companies are working on a strategy to further empower their SUV line-up.
Maruti Suzuki Chairman R. C. Bhargava told the press conference after Q4 results that the company will launch a new SUV in FY26.
Although he did not disclose the names or specifications of this SUV, but speculation in the auto world is intensified that it could be the SUV 7-seater.
So far Maruti has only 5-seater SUVs range. But in recent months, a 7-seater SUV has been seen several times, which is expected that the company is preparing for the 7-seater SUV based on the HeartEct platform of Grand Vitara.
If this happens, it can prove to be a major turn in Maruti's SUV strategy.
Maruti FY26 will also launch its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), E-Vitara. According to the company, its sales will start in India before September 2025.
E-Vitara will come in two battery variants-49kwh and 61kwh, the range of the larger battery version is said to be more than 500 kilometers.
If the new SUV will be really 7-seater, then it can compete with premium SUVs like Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.
Also, through E-Vitara, the company will also make its strong entry into the electric segment, where companies like Tata and Mahindra are already active.
