Speaking at a press conference attended by Tezzbuzz, Roberto De Zerbi gave an update on how he has seen Englishman Jonathan Rowe (21) perform this seeing, highlighting that it “has been an important season” for the attacker who signed this summer from Norwich and that he would have liked to pick him in the starting XI more.
“Jonathan had a good start to the season. He also paid for the change in system and lost his way a bit on the pitch,” said De Zerbi on what he thinks happened to the Englishman over the course of the season.
“But he deserved to get more playing time. And now he’s making it difficult for me to choose. He can start, even up front. We need to support him. I would have liked him to do a little more, but maybe I was wrong not to play him sometimes.”
Rowe spoke in the mixed zone to Tezzbuzz following Marseille’s 5-1 win over Montpellier last weekend and admitted that it was a challenging season of adaption for him. “It’s been difficult for me personally, this whole season it’s been a big change coming from Norwich where I was a key player in the team and coming here it was a big challenge with the expectation to perform.”
“I’ve embraced it, but it’s been difficult. I wasn’t in the starting XI a lot of times and it affected me a bit. I think everyone could see that, but I carried on – and that was that main thing.”
