A recent report has revealed that the American multinational corporation and technology company — Google — has directed some employees to come to office at least three days a week or quit their job. This announcement by Google suggests that the company is changing its work-from-home policy. According to a report by CNBC Google has asked its employees that they may lose their jobs as part of a company-wide cost-cutting effort. However the company has not yet made any official statement on this. The report stated that employees working from home in many departments have been told that if they do not start coming to their nearby office as per the new hybrid work schedule their jobs may be in danger. Some of these employees were previously approved for work from home.

Googles Work From Home policy change comes at a time when big tech companies are trying to invest more money in AI. This move requires a lot of funds and talent. Since the major layoffs in early 2023 Google has opted for targeted talent cuts in specific teams. This highlights the seriousness of its AI goals.
Decisions Are For Specific Teams
Google clarified that its recent return-to-office policy isnt universal. A spokesperson stated that the three-day in-office requirement applies only to certain teams reflecting a belief that in-person collaboration is crucial for innovation.

The report states that a notice sent by Google to some of employees of its technology service team. The mail states that they will have to come to the office at least three times a week in a hybrid model or they can opt for a voluntary exit package.
The report further said that the employees working from home in the team are being offered a one-time package to relocate within 50 miles of the office.
