Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, three young boys tragically drowned in a pond located in Nayagarh district, according to local authorities.
The unfortunate event took place in Godibida village within the Daspalla block, where the boys were enjoying a bath in the village pond following a wedding ceremony.
Local residents quickly intervened, rescuing the boys and transporting them to Daspalla hospital, but they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The victims have been identified as Umakant Nayak (11), Ritesh Pradhan (11), and Subham Khilari (9), as reported by the police.
In a related incident, a 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Kathajodi river near Khannagar in Cuttack.
The boy, identified as Suryakanta Majhi, was also rescued by locals and fire service personnel but was declared dead at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Additionally, a tragic motorcycle accident on the Patnagarh-Gaisilet Road in Bolangir district resulted in the death of a four-year-old boy, while his parents and uncle sustained injuries.
The boy was riding on the fuel tank of the motorcycle when it collided with a dumper. He died instantly, while the other three individuals are currently receiving medical care.
