Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their dream run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in Match 46 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. With this comprehensive victory, RCB not only bagged two crucial points but also climbed to the top of the points table.

DC post a fighting total despite early setbacks

After winning the toss, RCB elected to field first and immediately put DC on the back foot. Bhuvneshwar kumar led the attack with a brilliant spell, picking up 3 wickets for 33 runs. Josh Hazlewood supported well with two scalps, while Krunal pandya and Yash dayal chipped in with one wicket each.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Delhi managed to post a competitive 162/8 in their 20 overs. Kl satisfied anchored the innings with a composed 41 off 39 balls, while Tristan Stubbs injected some momentum with a quickfire 34 off 18 deliveries. Abishek porel also made a fiery start, scoring 28 off just 11 balls. However, DC kept losing wickets under pressure and could not fully capitalize in the death overs.

Krunal Pandya and Virat Kohli steer RCB home

Chasing 163, RCB had an early hiccup with the dismissals of debutant Jacob Bethell and Devdutt Padikkal. However, Virat Kohli stood tall once again, anchoring the innings with a measured 51 off 47 balls. The highlight of the chase was Krunal’s sensational knock of 73 from just 47 balls, featuring 5 fours and 4 sixes. His aggressive intent in the middle overs took the game away from DC.

Tim David added the finishing touches with a blistering 19 off just 5 deliveries, ensuring RCB crossed the finish line with 9 balls to spare at 165/4 in 18.3 overs.

Among DC bowlers, Axar Patel stood out with his figures of 2/19 in 4 overs, applying pressure and keeping the match alive for a brief period. However, lack of support from the other bowlers, especially during the death overs, cost DC dearly. Mukesh Kumar had a forgettable outing, conceding 51 runs in just 3.3 overs.

With this win, RCB not only strengthened their playoff hopes but also dethroned the previous table-toppers to occupy the number one position in the IPL 2025 standings. Their balanced team performances, both with bat and ball, are proving to be a key factor as the tournament heads into its business end.
