Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced recruitment for Group D posts and a tremendous trend of youth is being seen in it. A total of 32,438 recruitments are to be done for Group D posts in Railways. The surprising thing is that more than 1.08 crore candidates have applied for these posts from all over the country. The maximum applications have come from the Mumbai zone. A total of 15,59,100 candidates have registered from Mumbai.
This recruitment drive is being done for Level-1 posts in various departments of Railways. It includes posts like Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Assistant Pointsman, and Technical Assistant. These posts are in Electrical, Mechanical and Signal and Telecommunication departments. Seeing the registration of youth for this recruitment, it is clear that the level of competition in it is going to be high.
1.08 crore applications from all over the country
Talking about applications according to railway zone, 11.60 lakh applications have been received from Chandigarh, 11.12 lakh from Chennai, 9.60 lakh from Secunderabad, 8.61 lakh from Prayagraj and 7.93 lakh from Kolkata. A total of 1,08,22,423 applications have been registered.
With so many applications, the demand for government jobs is certainly increasing among the youth. However, it also comes to the fore that employment opportunities in the private sector in the country are still limited. According to a recent report from the National Statistical Office (NSO), the urban unemployment rate has come down to 6.4% in the July-September 2024 quarter, which is a positive sign. On the other hand, the India Employment Report 2024 also states that the quality of employment and its stability are still a matter of concern. There is a lack of better job opportunities, especially for the youth.
The government has taken a big step
The government has now taken steps towards making employment-related data more transparent. From May 15, 2025, the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) will release unemployment data every month. Which was earlier released every quarter. This will help more in making policies.
