Preußen Münster and head coach Sascha Hildmann have parted ways by mutual consent and with immediate effect, the Bundesliga 2 club confirmed on Sunday.

Following the 1-1 Bundesliga 2 draw with Darmstadt on Saturday, Preußen Münster have announced the decision to part ways with head coach Sascha Hildmann and his coaching team of Louis Cordes (assistant coach) and Janis Cordes (analyst).

In a statement, the club explained that their bid to beat the drop – which has been faltering of late with five winless outings in a row – requires fresh impetus. The club’s directors met with Hildmann and his team on Saturday evening, and all concerned agreed that the best solution was a change of coach.

The club made it clear that this had been a difficult decision to make as they battle to lift themselves out of the Bundesliga 2 relegation zone – especially as Hildmann’s time at the helm of the Eagles has been such a special one.

“Sascha Hildmann and his coaching team are part of one of the most successful chapters in our club’s history,” declared Münster sporting director Ole Kittner on the club’s official website on Sunday. “With his emotional nature, he has inspired people and, after 33 years, has led the team back to Bundesliga 2. He will always be warmly welcomed in Münster and especially at Hammer Straße.”

Hildmann, whose five-year tenure saw him rack up a record 218 matches in the Münster dugout, took charge of the team in January 2020 when it was struggling to beat the drop down to the fourth division. Although he couldn’t prevent relegation, he dug in and, in the summer of 2024, he led the club to a second successive promotion and a return to Bundesliga 2 for the first time since 1991.

Hildmann and his coaching team farewelled the players on Sunday morning before the squad had a training session without coaches in preparation for a crunch clash away to high-flying Magdeburg on Matchday 32. The club announced that information on new coaching arrangements will be communicated as soon as possible.
