A competitive eater with 4.3 million followers from China has stirred up social media debate by sweeping off all salmon into his plate at a buffet in Japan.
Deng Chenen, 25, known for his massive appetite and slow eating style, recently shared a video of his visit to a buffet restaurant in Tokyo with his girlfriend.
At the restaurant, he filled his plate with luxurious items such as salmon, king crabs, shrimp, Wagyu beef, and an entire tray of cheesecake, stating that he “only takes the expensive stuff,” the South China Morning Post reported.
His plate was piled high with dozens of pieces of salmon, prompting the restaurant staff to remind him not to waste food, as reported by The Star.
He even claimed, “I do not think any other diner will get to eat salmon today.”
The video quickly went viral, garnering over 350,000 likes, sparking criticism from netizens.
“This is extremely selfish! It ruins the experience for other diners,” one netizen wrote.
Others expressed their frustration, saying his behavior was an embarrassment to Chinese tourists.
Some warned that binge eating can lead to visceral fat build-up and increase the risk of diabetes, heart issues, and digestive problems.
At most buffet restaurants, diners are allowed to eat as much as they want while sitting inside the restaurant, but not to bring food out. Many places also apply a policy of penalizing those who intentionally bring food out of the restaurant.
