Neha Singh Rathore, a folk singer, was charged with sedition and other major offenses at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow on Sunday. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, includes many provisions under which the FIR has been lodged.

Neha Singh Rathore’s remarks on the most recent Pahalgam terror incident are at the center of the case.

Rathore said that the Modi-led administration was conducting politics based on caste and religion in her April 23 X post. She also said that “the same will be repeated in case of the Pahalgam attack” and accused the BJP administration of “collecting votes in the name of the Pulwama attack.”

On April 22, 26 individuals, including a Nepali national, were killed in the Pahalgam terror incident.

According to the allegation, her postings have the potential to incite anti-national feeling and hate based on caste.
Poet Abhay Pratap Singh, well known as Abhay Singh, lodged the complaint at the Hazratganj police station. He charged Neha with often sharing information that would disturb intercommunal harmony and sway public opinion against the country.

Sections 196(1)(a), 196(1)(b), 197(1)(a), 197(1)(b), 197(1)(c), 197(1)(d), 353(1)(c), 353(2), 302, and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as well as Section 69A of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, have all been invoked against her in the FIR, which was filed on April 27.

Additional legal actions are under progress, and the police have begun an inquiry into the situation.
