Multiple sources this evening agree that Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has shaken hands with the Brazil Football Federation to take over from June.
They had been courting him for months, but pounced after the 3-2 extra time Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona on Saturday night.
With Real Madrid seemingly lining up Xabi Alonso to replace him next season, Ancelotti was convinced to accept the prestigious Selecao role.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marca and more, the Italian has agreed a deal in principle with Brazil and is expected to be their coach for the 2026 World Cup.
It remains to be seen when this contract will start, because Real Madrid are participating in the Club World Cup from mid-June to mid-July, whereas Brazil want Ancelotti on the bench for the World Cup qualifiers in June.
These are details that will be worked out along with Real Madrid, as Marca assure the Brazilians have been careful to remain respectful of the club throughout the process.
Ancelotti too wants this to be a positive and shared departure after his second spell with the Merengues.
He is the only coach in history to have won all five major European League titles, as well as a record five editions of the Champions League.
