Bhubaneswar: In light of the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, a significant meeting took place on Monday between the Indian Army and the Commissionerate of Police for Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. The aim was to enhance collaboration and preparedness for any potential threats.
Senior officials from both the Army and the police described the hour-long discussion as vital for maintaining law and order in the region.
As a precaution, a high alert was declared at the Bhubaneswar railway station, where Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel conducted a flag march throughout the day.
No specific reasons were provided for the increased security measures at the station or the meeting between the Army and police.
A senior Army officer remarked, "This collaboration between the armed forces and police is a significant step. Other states could adopt this model to improve coordination on various fronts."
During the meeting, the Army presented detailed information to officers from various police stations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Commissioner of Police, S Dev Datta Singh, emphasized the importance of seamless coordination, stating, "The Army updated us on their operations in Bhubaneswar and Odisha. We have committed to working together during this heightened security period to ensure public safety and manage emergencies effectively."
In an effort to bolster security in the capital, RPF personnel conducted a flag march at the railway station, focusing on passenger safety.
"The high alert is in place to protect travelers. RPF officers are thoroughly checking passenger luggage and monitoring all areas of the station," a senior Government Railway Police (GRP) official noted.
They are also raising awareness about safety among passengers using announcements on the platforms.
"Following the Pahalgam attack, the entire Bhubaneswar railway station is under high alert. Regular security checks are ongoing," an RPF officer confirmed.
Suspicious individuals are being questioned to mitigate any potential threats.
Additional security personnel have been assigned to monitor entry and exit points, platforms, and parking areas to ensure comprehensive surveillance of the station.
In a related incident, stickers resembling the Pakistani flag were discovered on roads at Rupali Square and Fire Station Square late Sunday night.
"These stickers were placed in protest against the Pahalgam attack, and we have since removed them," stated Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.
