In Borno state, which has long been afflicted by extremist violence, the event happened on Monday along a route that connects the towns of Rann and Gamboru Ngala.

Residents said the trucks were moving between the two villages when they encountered the buried device, resulting in a catastrophe that killed hundreds.

Although information on the wounded survivors’ status has not been made public, TASS claimed that they were promptly taken to the closest hospital for immediate medical attention.

In an internal document seen by Reuters, the International Safety Organization, which offers security services to international non-governmental groups operating in northeastern Nigeria, verified the occurrence.

As yet, no organization has claimed credit for the explosion. However, extremist organizations like Boko Haram have continued to operate in Borno state, carrying out several assaults over the years, threatening civilian lives and destabilizing the area.
