Nguyen Xuan Son, the Brazilian-born striker formerly known as Rafaelson Fernandes, and his wife Marcele Seippel visited Hanoi’s iconic Train Street on Monday and enjoyed Vietnamese rice noodles with grilled pork bun cha.

Seippel captured footage of the train passing by, with tourists cheering in the background. She also posed for photos with the Vietnamese national red flag featuring a yellow star in honor of Reunification Day celebrations.

Photos on Son’s Facebook showed the couple, who live in Nam Dinh Province that borders Hanoi, enjoying coffee drinks on the street, before they savored Good cha at a stall in the Old Quarter.

Earlier in January, just days after undergoing surgery for leg fracture from the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final in Thailand, Son had requested bun cha to satisfy his cravings, even asking his wife to bring it to the hospital.

Train Street, which is lined with makeshift cafes just inches from the railway tracks, was officially closed in September 2022 due to safety concerns. However, despite barricades and checkpoints at both ends of Tran Phu and Phung Hung streets, some cafes continue to operate, drawing large crowds, especially foreign tourists on weekends.

Son made history as the first player to score over 30 goals in a single V. League season. He became a Vietnamese citizen in September, adopting the name Nguyen Xuan Son as part of his naturalization process.

Nearly four months after the leg surgery, Son is now walking normally. In early April, the 28-year-old striker returned to Nam Dinh Club to continue his rehabilitation, following a specially designed training program created by experts.
