Lucknow On Tuesday, Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), asked party members to help and promote her nephew Akash Anand, who was just brought back into the party after being stripped of important duties.
In a thorough post on social media site X, Mayawati discussed the internal dynamics of the party and claimed that some BSP members are sometimes relieved of their duties and, in extreme situations, expelled because of “ignorance, over-enthusiasm, carelessness, or being misled by opposition conspiracies.”
In the interest of the party and the movement, some of them are removed after reflecting and expressing regret. Since the party’s founding, this has been the norm, and other parties have also adopted such practices,” she said.
She said that “some selfish and sellable elements within the Bahujan Samaj”—who have formed their own parties in an attempt to split the BSP vote—had been disseminating misleading information about Akash Anand’s homecoming in the media.
In addition to encouraging Akash Anand to fully contribute to the party, she said that party workers should be wary of such opportunistic characters. Likewise, it is in the best interests of the party to treat all other re-inducted members with the utmost respect.
Mayawati accused opposing parties of using unfair standards in response to the BSP’s internal choices.
“Opposition parties like the Congress and BJP refer to it as ‘Aaya Ram Gaya Ram’ when members of our party are dismissed for lack of discipline or immaturity and then returned after realizing their errors. However, they refer to it as a matter of party interest when they follow suit,” she added.
Such criticism, according to her, is a part of a bigger plot to damage the BSP’s reputation.
“There is nothing personal in these decisions,” she said. “It is entirely about advancing the mission of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, and serving the interests of the party and the movement.”
Mayawati urged party members to maintain their vigilance and solidarity while putting the broader objectives of empowerment and social justice front and center.
