Closure of Tourist Spots in Kashmir

Srinagar: On Tuesday, the government of Jammu and Kashmir announced the closure of 48 tourist locations throughout the Valley.

This decision follows a tragic incident where terrorists attacked tourists in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 25 individuals, including a Nepali citizen and a local resident. The attackers specifically targeted Hindu men based on their faith.

Out of a total of 87 tourist spots in the region, nearly 55% have now been shut down.

Following the Pahalgam attack, there has been a noticeable decline in tourist arrivals, particularly at Srinagar airport.

The closed destinations include Yousmarg, Tousmaidan, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus, and many others, totaling 48 locations.

Authorities have assured that the remaining open destinations are under enhanced security measures. Some of the closures are said to be temporary.

The attack has sparked widespread outrage across the nation, with people from various backgrounds condemning the brutal actions of the terrorists.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to track down the terrorists and their supporters, promising severe consequences.

In response to the attack, security forces have demolished the homes of 10 active terrorists, including those believed to be involved in the Pahalgam incident.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly unanimously passed a resolution denouncing the attack, labeling it as heinous and cowardly. The resolution emphasized that such acts undermine the values of Kashmiriyat and the spirit of unity and peace, while also expressing condolences to the victims' families.
