Popular social media platform Reddit on Tuesday announced the launch of an AI-based translation feature in India. Under this new feature, users will now be able to read posts on Reddit by translating them into Hindi. The company said that the Bengali language will also be added to the platform in the next few months.
Now Reddit will not be limited to just English.
So far Reddit has been an English-dominated platform, but the company says that the translation feature based on machine learning technology has been introduced to reach more users in a country with diverse languages like India. Hindi is the most spoken language in India, which is spoken by about 52.83 crore people i.e. 43.63% of the total population of the country speaks Hindi.
How will this translation feature work?
According to Reddit, this translation feature will allow users to automatically translate posts and comments. Users can now post in any language, if Reddit supports that language, the translation will be automatically done in the user's chosen language. For example, if a user posts in English but the default language for you is Hindi, Reddit will show that post in Hindi.
How to use it?
On the Reddit app (Android, iPhone, and website), users will now see a new button called "Translate" above the post. By tapping on it, users will be able to see the entire feed in Hindi. Also, there will be an option of "Original Language View", so that you can see the post in the original language as well. Earlier, last week, Reddit launched another new feature AI Answers in India. This AI-powered tool helps users find fast and accurate information on the platform.
