After leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL final in the previous year, Shreyas Iyer’s unexpected release by the franchise before the 2025 mega-auction surprised many. He subsequently became the second-highest paid player in IPL history, signed by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.
Currently PBKS ranks fifth on the points table with 11 points in hand with the help of five victories in nine games.
