A user speculated: "Everyone's so focused on Hannah, getting her out, saving her, holding on to that hope. And I get it, we've all been rooting for June to reunite with her. But what if that's not where the real ending lies?".
They went on to suggest: "What if the show is setting up them Angela and Janine to be the ones who make it out? Together. Safe. Whole. What if that's the happy ending we didn't even realize we needed? [sic]."
Echoing the sentiment for a slice of joy, another chimed in: "I do think we need a win lol, we know the story as a whole isn't going to be happy, but one happy ending out of the years of trauma would be nice, and let's face it, it's not even that happy of an ending, she's taking a child that doesn't really know her as her mother, Janine is going to have to work through so much trauma, with one eye as a physical reminder [sic]."
And a third fan expressed their hopes: "I would love this to happen. Janine is my absolute favorite and all I want is for her to have a happy ending."
One fan chimed in: "This would be great. Especially since Naomi really doesn't act like she cares about Angela so we won't feel bad about taking her from them [sic]."
Some viewers speculated that Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) might assist Janine and Angela.
A viewer suggested that while a completely happy ending was unlikely, change was on the horizon: "Well, not whole bc Janine is missing an eye.... but seemingly Angela is being prepped for revolution by Comm. Lawrence so I'm not sure if I think she will be reunited with Janine yet... [sic]."
Another fan noted: "I caught that! Lawrence did literally tell her "you're going to read this book all by yourself" which is very VERY against the law. He's already setting her up to not believe in Gilead's laws [sic]."
A third fan theorised: "Lawrence is clearly going to turn...he's always had subversive tendencies, he's not religious, and now he knows he's wanted on the wall. I'll be incredibly surprised if he doesn't leave Gilead taking Angela with him, whilst helping June to liberate Jezebel's."
The Handmaid's Tale is anticipated to conclude with a bang, leading naturally into the forthcoming series The Testaments, based on the sequel novel to The Handmaid's Tale.
The Testaments will introduce new characters striving to topple the religious government from within in the next phase of Gilead's history.
Regrettably, as our readers are aware, Hannah won't be fleeing Gilead with her mother.
Instead, it's Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) who will facilitate her escape and bring down the regime with incriminating information.
It's highly probable that The Handmaid's Tale will conclude on a somewhat melancholic note, with some narratives neatly tied up, but June and Luke Bankole (O-T Fagbenle) rescuing Hannah won't be one of them.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 will be coming to Prime Video and on May 3 in the UK
