Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, the Odisha vigilance team apprehended the excise superintendent of Dhenkanal on allegations of corruption, according to official reports.
Following a tip-off, the vigilance team intercepted the official on Tuesday near Deulasahi road in Dhenkanal while she was returning home from work, carrying illicit cash amounting to ₹3 lakh, stated Radhakrishna, Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) for the Cuttack division.
The authorities confiscated the cash along with her vehicle and initiated searches at five of her properties.
During these searches, they uncovered a three-story building in Jagatpur, Cuttack, a two-story structure in Puri, and eight high-value plots, including four in Cuttack, two in Puri, and two in Jagatsinghpur.
Additionally, Radhakrishna reported that two cars and over ₹20 lakh were discovered in her possession during the operation.
Following the identification of these assets, a corruption case was filed, leading to her arrest.
In a related case, Bijay Kumar Mallik, a former godown in-charge at the Dehunda additional storage point of MARKFED-Odisha in Balasore, was convicted on the same day.
The retired officer faced charges under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the IPC for misappropriating government funds linked to fertilizer pilferage.
The special vigilance judge in Balasore sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000, officials confirmed.
The vigilance department plans to approach the relevant authority to halt his pension.
