Denmark horror as 'several people hit by a car' in country's capital

A car struck several pedestrians on Queen Louise's Bridge in the capital of Copenhagen, with scrambled to the scene. said the incident involved an elderly man who appeared to lose control of his vehicle near Sortedam Dossering.

Eleven people have been injured, with the conditions of three described as "critical", reported Danish broadcaster TV2. The bridge and the surrounding area remain cordoned off as investigations continue. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the scene while emergency crews remain in place.

A Copenhagen Police statement on X said: "We are heavily present in connection with a traffic accident on Sortedam Dossering, where an elderly man lost control of his car.

"There are reports of five injured.

"Their condition is not yet known."

The bridge links the districts of Indre By and Norrebro.

Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet claimed seven ambulances and seven police cars were on the scene.

A red vehicle was parked up with a smashed front end, with an elderly man reportedly helped out of it and placed on a stretcher.

Eyewitnesses told TV2 the man drove into a group of people sitting at long tables near the Lagkagehuset bakery.
