Actor Suniel Shetty has voiced his concerns about Bollywood films’ recent box office setbacks and questioned if foreign films are now controlling the Indian market.
Shetty discussed his thoughts on why a lot of popular Hindi films aren’t doing well at the box office in an interview with ANI.
“English-language movies are shown… Aaj 15 lakh ka business nahin kar rahi hain humari filmein. Where did we go wrong, then? Have we let the foreign businesses overtake us and take the limelight? “Have we given them permission to steal our business?” Shetty said.
Shetty also mentioned a variety of problems that the business faces, such as the high cost of popcorn and the decline of theaters nationwide.
“Look, we’ll need to lower the costs. It gets quite challenging if the cost of the popcorn exceeds the cost of the ticket. There has to be more theaters, you know. “There must be five times as many theaters,” he said.
Shetty thought back to the days when producers were heavily engaged in every aspect of a movie’s distribution. “A producer’s life used to be linked to the movie he made in our day and age as he had to finance it himself or take out a loan. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were crucial days for him.
The corporate culture that now controls the film business was also criticized by him. “If you call a corporate house on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, they’ll say, ‘I’m out for the weekend.'” We do our company on the weekends,” Shetty said.
A number of Bollywood films, such as Sikandar, which Salman Khan just released for Eid, have not been able to attract sizable audiences. In spite of this, certain recent movies have performed well and gotten good reviews, such as Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2.
Next up for Suniel Shetty is “Kesari Veer,” starring Vivek Oberoi. The movie, which was produced by Kanu Chauhan and directed by Prince Dhiman, will be released on May 16.
