A few days ago, Blinkit and Airtel together made a big announcement to start delivery of SIM cards to homes in 10 minutes. But now this service has been stopped for the time being. According to reports, this step has been taken after the objection of the Department of Telecom (DoT). Which has raised questions about the KYC process being adopted in this service.
DoT asked Airtel how it is doing SIM card delivery and KYC process. The department clearly said that according to government rules, it is very important to complete the KYC process.
The service is not stopped, just paused
According to reports, the Telecom Department has not stopped SIM delivery but has put a pause on it. If you search Airtel SIM on the Blinkit app now, then the SIM will not show in the result. Right now you cannot order SIM from Blinkit.
What was the Blinkit-Airtel SIM delivery plan?
Airtel had announced on April 15 that it would deliver SIM cards in 16 major cities in collaboration with Blinkit in 10 minutes. This included cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Jaipur, Kolkata. The user was going to get the SIM at home at a convenience charge of Rs 49. After SIM delivery, it had to be activated by doing KYC through Aadhar card.
If the customer wanted, he could also select the option of postpaid, prepaid, or number porting. But at present this plan has been stopped. You cannot get SIM card delivery in 10 minutes through Blinkit sitting at home.
The dream of 10-minute SIM delivery deferred
Now it remains to be seen when Airtel and Blinkit start it again following the condition of the government. Until the correct process is decided, the dream of 10-minute SIM delivery has been deferred a bit.
