“Famous cricketer and captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev, paid a courtesy visit to the official residence in Lucknow today,” CM Yogi posted on X, providing a sneak peek into the encounter.

From 1978 until 1994, Kapil Dev, who had a stellar cricket career, played for India. He played 131 Test matches, amassed 12,867 runs, and claimed 434 wickets, making him one of the best all-rounders ever. He guided India to its maiden World Cup victory in 1983 and amassed 6,945 runs and 253 wickets in 225 ODIs.

Kapil Dev served in a number of roles after his retirement from cricket, including coach, pundit, and chancellor of the Sports University of Haryana in 2019. Additionally, he served as India’s coach for ten months, from October 1999 to August 2000.

Srinivasan H. R. was replaced as PGTI president in June 2024 by Kapil Dev. He was chosen for the job by a unanimous vote.

Prior to being chosen as PGTI leader, the former cricket player, who has also achieved success as an amateur golfer, served as PGTI’s vice president and a member of its governing board for three years (2021–2023).

His establishment of the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational event at the DLF Golf & Country Club was one of his noteworthy accomplishments as a board member.

Due to his popularity and love for the game, Kapil has been invited to important tournaments like the Dunhill Links in recent years, where he has played with other well-known people from across the world.

The “Adani Invitational Golf Championship 2025” was introduced by PGTI and Adani Group in March of this year. After 11 years, PGTI returned to the Jaypee Greens Golf Spa Resort in Greater Noida for the inaugural event, which offered a prize fund of Rs 1.5 crore and was held from April 1 to 4.
