New Delhi: A wave of mourning has swept over the Kapoor family and the Hindi film industry following the demise of Nirmal Kapoor, the revered matriarch of the Kapoor family. The mother of Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, and Sanjay Kapoor breathed her last on Friday evening at 5:45 PM at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. She was 90.
Her passing was met with an outpouring of grief from family members, many of whom were seen gathering at Anil Kapoor’s residence. Videos from the location have surfaced online, where Boney Kapoor, his daughter Anshula Kapoor, and other close relatives could be seen solemnly united. Shikhar Pahariya, who shares a close bond with Janhvi Kapoor, was also spotted at the venue.
Rhea Kapoor’s husband, Karan Boolani, was among those in attendance as the family came together to pay their respects.

Only months ago, Nirmal’s 90th birthday was celebrated in September 2024, a moment fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren. On the occasion, Anil Kapoor had penned a heartfelt tribute to her on Instagram: “90 years of love, strength, and endless sacrifices. Your presence fills our lives with joy and positivity every day. Blessed to be your child. Happy birthday, Mummy!”

Nirmal Kapoor had stood beside her husband, late producer Surinder Kapoor, who passed away in 2011 following a cardiac arrest. She was also the grandmother to some of Bollywood’s most popular stars including Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, and Mohit Marwah.
