Bicholim: Police stated on Saturday that a stampede at the Lairai Devi temple in Shirgaon resulted in at least six fatalities and more than fifteen injuries.
A stampede at the Lairai Devi temple in Shrigao, Goa, left six people dead and over fifteen wounded, according to North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal.
Goa’s chief minister, Pramod Sawant, said he is personally monitoring the situation and expressed sorrow over the incident.
Sawant said that he had a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who conducted a thorough assessment of the issue.
“I am really grieved by the terrible stampede that occurred this morning at the Lairai Zatra in Shirgaon. I went to the hospital to see the wounded and gave the impacted families my word that they would get all help imaginable. I am personally monitoring the situation to ensure that all necessary actions are being taken.
The Chief Minister wrote on X, “The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji spoke with me and took a detailed stock of the situation, offering his full support during this difficult time.”
