The House Arrest controversy has escalated with massive outrage and several politicians calling for a ban on the show. Now, the Ullu app has pulled down the reality show, House Arrestfrom their platform. The National Commission for Women (NCW) wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “NCW takes suo motu cognisance of obscene content on Ullu App’s show House Arrest. Viral clips show women being coerced into intimate acts on camera. NCW slams the platform for promoting vulgarity & violating consent. The CEO & host were summoned on May 9. The nature of these acts, if proven true, may attract serious penal provisions under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.”
The action comes after two viral videos from the show sparked widespread criticism. In the video, Ajaz Khan asked the contestants to enact a few sexual performances and asked them about sexual experiments. In the other clip, he asked a few female contestants to take off their undergarments from below their clothes.
On May 1, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi shared a clip from the OTT web series, House Arrestand called for a ban on the show. She wrote on X, ” have raised this in the standing committee, highlighting how apps like Ullu and Alt Balaji have managed to evade the ban imposed by the I&B ministry on apps featuring obscene content. I am still awaiting their reply.”
Meanwhile,m Barun Raj DSingh, the BJP Yuva Morcha’s Bihar in-charge, called the Union Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to take the appropriate action against the show and the host, Ajaz Khan.
