Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Friday that the Maharashtra government has begun the second phase of its “Jivant 7/12” campaign to update land records.
In Maharashtra, a land title document is sometimes called a “7/12 extract.”
Earlier this year, the exercise’s first phase, which included formal training, was carried out.
“To make sure that farmers don’t encounter any issues because of outdated entries in land records, we have started the second phase of the Jivant 7/12 campaign.” According to Bawankule, the administration has ordered that these records be changed to reflect current, factual information.
The minister said, “If they are no longer relevant, outdated statements, repaid agricultural loans, bonding encumbrances, mortgages, private moneylender loans, land acquisition disputes, non-agricultural orders, substandard land areas, and women’s inheritance claims will be removed.”
Bawankule said, “We will update 7/12 land title documents by removing unnecessary information and adding legitimate entries like ownership details, tenancy types, and records of public lands like cremation grounds.”
He said that outdated data make it difficult for farmers to get loans, acquire or sell property, and receive government program advantages.
For this reason, he added, camps would be held at the taluka and circle levels, with District Collectors and Sub-Divisional Officers in charge of oversight and reporting.
According to the minister, the effort would help speed up the resolution of cases that have been waiting for a long time.
