New Delhi: On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address several pressing issues, including the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that occurred last week, according to officials.
The discussion took place at the Prime Minister's residence and lasted approximately 30 minutes.
This meeting marked the first interaction between the two leaders following the tragic incident on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists.
During the meeting, Abdullah provided an update on the current situation in the region, emphasizing the public's outrage over the attack and the widespread protests that erupted in response, marking a significant moment since the onset of terrorism in 1989.
He also paid tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator who heroically attempted to disarm one of the attackers to safeguard the tourists.
The impact of the attack on the flourishing tourism sector and the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra was also a topic of discussion, officials noted.
The annual Amarnath Yatra, which lasts for 38 days, is set to commence on July 3, with pilgrims able to choose between the traditional 48-kilometer route from Pahalgam in Anantnag district or the shorter yet steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
