Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In an unexpected development in India’s two-wheeler segment, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India took the lead in April 2025. This is a significant development because the brand has surpassed fellow competitors like TVS and Bajaj as well as long time leader Hero MotoCorp.

Honda started FY2025-26 with a bang, selling a whopping 480896 units in April. Out of this, 422931 units were sold domestically and 57965 units were exports. The market’s approval was mainly due to the launch of new models like Dio 125 OBD2B compliant version and the restyled CB350 H’ness and RS variants which won the attention of young, safety-conscious unmarried men and women.

TVS Moves Up to Second Place with Impressive Sales Growth

TVS Motor Company climbed to second place with 443896 units sold, achieving a 15.71 percent year-on-year increase. Domestic sales reached 327016 units while exports saw a notable 45.18% increase to 116880 units.

TVS has been successful through innovation to meet the needs of the riders as well as their pocket, allowing them to cater to commuters and performance riders alike.

Bajaj Maintains Presence Despite Domestic Dip

Bajaj Auto registered a total of 365810 units sold, representing a decrease of six percent year-on-year. Domestic sales fell by 13 percent to 188615 units while exports increased four percent to 129322 units, underscoring Bajaj’s expanding international market focus.

Bajaj continues being a staple trusted brand in the domestic market considering that it still holds strong global appeal and offers value for recuperation.

Production Delay Plummets Sales, Resulting in Hero Falling to Fourth

Bajawal-Hero MotoCorp, once royalty in the realm of two-wheelers in India, has fell back to the 4th position having sold 3,05,406 units which is a 43% drop from the previous year in April 2024. Domestic sales faced a 44% decline too, to 2,88,524 units. According to the corporation, the drop was due to planned maintenance shutdowns at four manufacturing plants which was aimed at “production realignment”.

Even though the plant shutdowns were necessary, the timing seemed to have affected brand perception drastically as it have triggered a sharp dip in ranking.

Market Outlook: A Different Terrain

The new rising April 2025 rankings mark sign changes more than the numbers, they showcase the spending behavior of consumers. Currently, Indian buyers are shifting their focus towards features, brand value, and even being more willing to try out competing products.

On the bright side, Honda’s surge in sales alongside momentum from TVV and Bajaj’s global presence serve as a reminder for market volatility. As for Hero, these backsteps may give them the drive to make some better strategic decisions.
