New Delhi: During the toss of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match CSK captain MS Dhoni playfully deflected a question from former India coach Ravi Shastri regarding CSKs strategy to counter RCBs powerful opening batting. Dhoni chose to field first after winning the toss but declined to reveal his teams game plan. Let it be plans Ravi bhai Dhoni said during the toss. RCBs opening batsmen displayed aggressive batting. Jacob Bethell in only his second IPL game scored a rapid 55 runs from 33 balls. Virat Kohli also performed strongly scoring 62 runs from 33 balls. RCBs strong powerplay performance spearheaded by Kohli and Bethell yielded 71 runs a total CSKs bowling attack couldnt effectively contain. Chennai Super Kings fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj struggled to contain Salt and Bethell during the powerplay overs conceding a significant number of runs. We want to make the most of the last four games we have got. Try to look into next year and which individual will fit into what role. Yes we want to win games but getting the most of the four games is important said Dhoni speaking to Shastri at the toss. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) experienced an exceptionally poor 2025 IPL season winning only two of their first ten games. This poor performance led to MS Dhonis appointment as captain mid-season following Ruturaj Gaikwads elbow injury. The yellow teams batting performance has been underwhelming with several key players including Rahul Tripathi Vijay Shankar Deepak Hooda and Ravindra Jadeja inconsistent in their contributions. Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis who joined Chennai Super Kings mid-season have demonstrated promising batting skills. The franchise may retain them and build future teams around them. Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed have been the most successful bowlers for their franchise this season each achieving over 12 wickets. In contrast Ravichandran Ashwins performance has been underwhelming potentially leading to his release despite his high purchase price of Rs 9.75 crore.
