7.4 Earthquake of intensity Chile: A powerful earthquake occurred in South American countries Chile and Argentina this morning. This earthquake of 7.4 magnitude caused panic throughout the area and people left their homes and fled towards safe places. A warning of a fierce tsunami has been issued after the earthquake and the Chile government has ordered the citizens living in the coastal areas to be immediately vacated.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was in the sea, about 219 km south of Ushuaiya city of Argentina. Therefore, the intensity of this earthquake is not only limited to the ground but it has also shaken the sea. As a result, there is a danger of tsunami arising in the coastal areas of Chile.
Chile's President Gabriel Borik said on the social media platform X (East Twitter) that the coastal areas of Magallan region have been ordered to be vacated. The National Disaster Reduction and Response Service (ONEMI) is ready for this. He clarified that the government has all the necessary resources and emergency arrangements to deal with earthquakes and tsunamis.
As soon as earthquake tremors were felt, Punta Arenas (Chile) and Rio Galegos (Argentina) spread huge panic. People came out of their homes and started running towards open and safe places. So far there is no news of casualties or widespread damage, but the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.
Magalren is the southern and largest province in Chile, but has the lowest population. According to the government statistics of 2017, the total population of the region was around 166,000. Therefore, the risk of large -scale loss of life and property due to earthquake is considered relatively low, but the administration is on high alert due to high risk of tsunamis.

Both Chile and Argentina fall into the seismic region which is known as 'Ring of Fire'. This belt is famous for the most active earthquakes and volcanoes in the world. Therefore, there is always a danger of earthquake in this area. Chile has faced many major earthquakes in the past, and so its disaster management system is comparatively more competent and aware.
Due to this earthquake, the Chile government has tried to save the lives of citizens by showing timely awareness. The situation is still serious due to the danger of tsunami, but the administration is trying at a war footing. The local administration and the President have appealed to the citizens to follow the official instructions without panic. The promptness of the administration is likely to postpone a big disaster. This phenomenon also highlights the need to create a strong mechanism to deal with such natural disasters in the future.
