Bengaluru is already in disarray after just a few days of pre-monsoon rain, not only due to waterlogging but also to the mounting fear of falling trees. Public indignation and scrutiny of the BBMP’s Forest Department have been raised by the recent death of an auto motorist due to a tree fall.

Locals claim that despite repeated warnings, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has done nothing. Along roadways like Cubbon Park Road and Malleshwaram, dozens of trees provide a major concern, particularly those that are weak and dry. Residents contend that these trees ought to have been down in the summer, as is customary before to the monsoon season, but it doesn’t seem like any proactive steps have been done.

More than 100 trees have fallen in the last 48 hours, causing damage to cars and putting lives in risk. Critics claim that the local body’s only reaction, a circular advising people to exercise caution near trees, is far from a remedy.

Prior to the arrival of rain, the forest department of BBMP often allots funds for the trimming or removal of dangerous trees. Nevertheless, this duty seems to be disregarded year after year, with action only taking place after harm has been done.

With the monsoon approaching and additional rain predicted, BBMP authorities’ inactivity and quiet are raising serious concerns. The public is now calling for immediate action to stop further deaths.
