Hindi OTT Shows on Fire: BW, PL, Khauf, now BWG

When comparing the kind of films released both in theatres and on OTT with the shows that have come out, it's clear that OTT series have received a much stronger response than films.

But the question is-why?

One of the key reasons Hindi OTT shows are performing much better is because they're taking creative risks.

The scripts aren't linear or predictable. With strong writing, they manage to engage viewers and remain memorable long after each episode ends.

These shows also take the bold step of casting lesser-known actors.

Black Warrant featured Zahan Kapoor, Rahul Bhat, Sidhant Gupta, and Paramvir Cheema among others. Paatal Lok starred Jaideep Ahlawat, Khauf included Monika Panwar, Chum Darang, and Rajat Kapoor, while Black, White & Gray featured Mayur More and Palak Jaiswal, among others.

None of these actors are traditional "stars," and this blend of fresh faces and fresh stories is exactly what audiences are loving.

Black, White & Gray sparked a wide range of opinions. While some hailed it as a brilliant show, others praised its technical aspects. Either way, it's definitely one of the more watchable and talked-about series.

The OTT space gives content a longer lifespan, as people can watch it at their leisure. This flexibility contributes to the lasting success of OTT shows compared to theatrical releases.

It's clear that Hindi OTT series are winning over audiences in a way that many theatrical releases, and even OTT films, should take inspiration from.
