Howrah-Chennai Amrit Bharat Express: All you need to know about the route, prices, timings and other key details

Synopsis

Indian Railways will introduce the Howrah-Chennai Amrit Bharat Express as part of a larger rollout of 50 such trains in the 2025-26 financial year. This bi-weekly train will traverse 1,662 km via Visakhapatnam, completing the journey in under 26 hours. With a maximum speed of 130 km/h, it will offer Sleeper Class tickets for approximately Rs 800.

The Indian Railways is set to launch 50 Amrit Bharat Express trains in the 2025-26 financial year, including one on the busy Howrah-Chennai route. Here’s what you need to know.

Route, distance, and travel time
The Howrah-Chennai Amrit Bharat Express will cover 1,662 km via Visakhapatnam in less than 26 hours.

Stops along the route
The train will make stops at several major stations, including Kharagpur Junction, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road Junction, Vizianagram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Tenali, Ongole, and Gudur Junction.

Frequency and speed
Operating twice a week, the Howrah-Chennai Amrit Bharat Express will have a maximum speed of 130 km/h.

Ticket prices
Tickets for the Sleeper Class on the Howrah-Chennai route will cost approximately Rs 800.

Timings
The train will depart Howrah at around 22:00 hrs and reach Chennai at approximately 01:00 hrs. On its return journey, it will leave Chennai at around 18:00 hrs and arrive in Howrah at 20:30 hrs the following day.
