The Bollywood star, who is expecting her first child with husband and fellow actor Sidharth Malhotra, looked radiant as she posed for cameras. Her flowing gown featured dramatic contours and sculptural elements, a signature of Gupta’s work. She completed her look with soft waves and a delicate side braid, adding a subtle yet whimsical detail to her ensemble.

A Gown Designed With Purpose

As per WWD, designer Gaurav Gupta revealed from New Delhi that this was their first major collaboration on such a prestigious platform, although he and Advani have known each other for over a decade. The duo first met at a wedding, and since then, Advani has frequently worn Gupta’s designs for various appearances and events.

According to Gupta, the starting point for the gown’s concept was Advani’s pregnancy. He noted that both he and the actress were clear about embracing and showcasing her baby bump in a way that felt bold and celebratory. He acknowledged the rarity of such a scenario, as it is uncommon for pregnant celebrities to attend the Met Gala, especially while representing Indian fashion.

He also drew upon the Black dandyism theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Gupta said, “I’ve also always been in love with André Leon Talley, and his magnanimity, style, grace and love that just comes through his pictures and interviews. That just envelops fashion in so many ways.”

Advani will wear a cape that was inspired by the one that Talley wore to the 2010 Met Gala with her Gupta gown. A month in the making, the dress would cost between $30,000 (Rs 25,26,634) and $40,000 (Rs 33,68,846), the designer said, reported WWD. More than anything the designer wanted to highlight how dandyism was once used by traditional Black dandies as a portal that opened up the world of fashion, culture and individuality.

The dress is called “Bravehearts” as a nod to the heroism of the original Black dandies. Advani’s dress has a large gold metallic heart on the chest with what looks like an umbilical cord attached to a small gold heart on the black stretch fabric on her stomach.

Despite the international spotlight, Gupta mentioned that the gown was a loaner and that the process was both creative and meaningful for his 20-year-old fashion house. His label has also dressed stars like Priyanka Chopra and Cardi B.

Social Media Hype

A few hours before the event, Sidharth Malhotra arrived in New York City. Though he did not appear at the Gala itself, the timing of his arrival fueled speculation and excitement among fans. Malhotra later shared glimpses of his time in New York, just ahead of his wife’s much-talked-about debut.

Kiara had earlier hinted at her attendance through an Instagram Story where she showcased an arrangement of pink roses and a mannequin-shaped cake dressed in a miniature black gown. The post also included an illustration of The Met, subtly confirming her participation at the annual fashion celebration.

On the professional front, Kiara Advani was last seen in the Telugu action film Game Changer, directed by S. Shankar and co-starring Ram Charan. She is now set to appear in War 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The actress is also confirmed for another Yash Raj Films action thriller with Jr NTR. However, she is no longer part of Don 3, which was previously set to feature Ranveer Singh.
