The makers of first-time director Krishna Shankar’s The Verdict dropped the teaser of the film on Monday.

The glimpse introduces us to an elderly Aliza with health complications, played by Suhasini Maniratnam, who befriends Namrata (Sruthi Hariharan) accidentally. In a fateful twist to their friendship, Namrata is accused of murdering Aliza, while the former is represented by counsel Maya (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar). The film is expected to depict the multiple complexities in this case and how Maya unravels the case and proves her client innocent.

In an earlier conversation with CE, the debut director divulged about setting a courtroom drama in the US and how tricky it was to differentiate Indian and American legal systems to make it comprehensible for audiences here. “Except for the jury system, I don’t think there is much of a difference between court proceedings in India and the US. Also, things happening outside the court are common and relatable to the Indian audience,” he said, adding that the actors were so cooperative that he was able to complete the filming in 23 days as planned.

The film also stars Vidyulekha Raman and Prakash Mohan, who produced the film under his Agni Entertainment banner. Cinematographer Arvind Krishna, editor Sathish Surya and composer Aditya Rao, form the technical crew of the upcoming film.

The Verdict is slated for a theatrical release on May 30.
